It was a Valentines gift that got delivered just when I needed it most.  She is awesome!I wasted no time getting back to work in the studio.  It took me one full day to give the Reaching up Monkey a layer of paper mache. It seems the only way to keep her immobile is to be immobile myself.  Since my last post she has been back to the vet twice.  Because of the placement of her stitches she reopens the wound each time she moves. She had Mast Cell Cancer,  the vet successfully cut it out!  Yay!  Unfortunately the stitches wrap around Miss Bella's front leg and they are not healing like they should.  I am doing my best to keep her from moving, but it is tuff. I left the tail end in the yard on a bench.  I was considering using it as a real Reliquary object.  But by day 3, something took it away. However, these dried up flowers are the favorite food of the Goldfinch.  The bright yellow birds look like new blooms, as they feast on yummy flower seeds. My friend Tere suggested it and I jumped at the chance.  My mom signed on a few days ago!  I got my book last week but just opened it up today.  It is kind of intimidating at first. As a by product of the triple digit temps our heat pump has been running non stop.  Last year I hooked a PVC pipe to the condensation run off from the heat pump.  It made a nice little oasis. I can see Frankenstein's round head in the Thinking Monkey sculpture.  His perfectly rounded shapes and delicate edges. I think the top photo of Bella needs to be a new sculpture.  The twist of her body and weight on the pillow. I can't wait to start painting them.  I will concentrate on the Thinking Monkey today to bring it up to the same level as these two.  Then the final pass of sanding, then color! The bees are working hard all day long and inspiring us to try harder and do better.  I found a baby toad in Bella's water bowl this morning.  It was so tiny and cute.  I helped it escape before she spotted it. I am building up it's underside so it is truly a 3-D piece.  The feet have foot pads and the belly will be fully rounded.  The Monkey is coming to life a bit more each time I work on it.  A lot of credit goes to Bella (our new pug) for having such a monkey face.  Recently I was fretting that these are taking too long to complete. It is peeking over his shoulder and balances his extended arm.  The Hare got his two front teeth, courtesy  of a broken Muscle shell.  They will be more apparent once the Hare itself is painted.  The thinking Monkey got his face. I made some big moves yesterday, although from the photos it is hard to tell.  The standing monkey still needs a tail, I will try and get that done today.  I did a lot of adding the day before so yesterday was all subtraction.  now it is all about refining and getting ready to add color.  It is tempting to leave them white. Here are some photos of the work.  Artist Scott Phillips solo exhibit of Acrylic paintings are a treat.  His unique style reads as if Van Gogh and El greco had a baby who grew up during the modern age--well something like that.
